Laser Acne Treatments And How They Work |
By Tony James
Acne can leave behind some unpleasant looking scars that can ruin anybody's self-esteem. While there are so many ways to actually treat the damages that acne leaves behind, let's look at something advanced that doesn't use harmful chemicals - acne scar laser treatment.
Laser acne treatment uses a technology called laser resurfacing, a proven technology that has been known for treating wrinkles, stretch marks, and other common scars. Now this same technology is going to be used for acne laser skin treatment.
The acne blemish laser treatment process starts off with the surgeon and his trusty handheld laser device which is going to be used primarily for burning off scarred skin cells. The idea in using laser treatment for acne scars is for replacing these burned off cells with fresh skin cells.
This process can be extremely easy for surgeons because of the high accuracy of laser resurfacing. This keeps your unaffected healthy skin safe from harm and focuses on the damaged areas. Surgeons can also control the depth of the laser beam so that the laser
penetrates just enough to remove a precise area of affected skin which is necessary for delicate operations such as facial acne treatment.
There are two kinds of lasers used in laser acne treatment available at the surgeon's disposal - the commonly used Erbium or YAG laser and the recently developed carbon dioxide or CO2 laser. Both of these laser devices are highly accurate and produce no damage to undamaged cells and upcoming fresh cells.
The Erbium or YAG laser utilizes heat energy to penetrate the skin and allow the moisture content within to absorb. Without affecting the healthy skin, the heat energy starts to scatter, effectively resurfacing the skin.
The carbon dioxide or CO2 laser performs its laser treatment for acne a little bit differently by emitting very short bursts of highly concentrated laser light which vaporizes the skin in tissue layers. The fresh skin is spared, allowing some new growth to replace the bad layers previously vaporized by the CO2 laser.
Patients can only opt for an acne blemish laser treatment operation if they meet certain medical parameters. The advantage of a patient meeting the qualifications for a laser acne treatment is the assurance of minimal risk of future scarring. It is very unlikely for any complications to occur as a result of laser resurfacing.
Although the technology of laser resurfacing for treating acne scars is highly advanced and convenient in getting rid of these unwanted scars, it still takes a highly qualified surgeon to perform scar removals using the laser. The reason behind this is due to the know how of the usage of the laser devices and the artistic ability needed in guiding the laser beams. We are dealing with skin tissue here and using the laser device carefully in re-crafting the affected tissue is necessary to ensure a successful operation.
Laser acne treatments are very reliable in getting the job done, but they can be quite costly to patients. They remain a powerful solution overall.
